Prevent the mess BEFORE you drill!
Don’t like to clean up after drilling? Prevent the mess BEFORE you drill by collecting all the particles into a container… This has saved me lots of cleanup many times – cleaning up gets old after some time, particularly with dust particles that tend to fly around with every gust of wind!
The trick is to stick an envelope beneath the drilling area. Some people like to use real envelopes but I suggest being greener – fold up some junk mail or recycle some old printed paper to make a simple envelope… And it will work much better because in most cases, it will be wider, and therefore collect more dust than any normal-sized envelope!
I always keep some tape in my toolbox and this is a nice way to put it to use!
This is what the finished product looks like:

- Fold the paper about 2/3 down
- Pull in the corners to prevent the dust from spilling out
- Fold it up
- Tape the sides (remember you just need a container, not a work of art!)

I usually use a vacuum cleaner. Vacuum clean and drill at the same time. You need 2 persons though – one to hold the vacuum cleaner near the drilling area and the other to drill! But I think there are drills that come with a vacuum cleaner already attached to the drill (?).
